Music

can describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place

Over the past 7 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place

I can describe these characteristics in a piece of music

Harmony
Notes put together to make a sound.
Rhythm
Repeated sounds that change speed.
Timbre
The timbre is a unique sound.      play by everything
Form
The plan and of the song, also broken into three parts, chorus, verse and bridge.

Melody
is when the song getsstuck in your head

Here is an example of my learning

Information report water cycle

Water, water is a liquid that covers a large amount of the Earth surface. Water was a hard to understand back in the old days some people thought it was magic, but we have now found about the water cycle. There are four key stages of the water cycle Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation and runoff or infiltration ( runoff and infiltration they both happen at the same time or just one happens )
EVAPORATION
Evaporation is when the sun comes out and heats up the water and then the water starts to evaporates
Now it is a gas. Water vapor is also called humidity so on a hot day they're will be a lot of humidity. When water evaporates the water vapor is invisible because it is a gas. When the water evaporates on a cold day the water vapor can condense and turns it into water droplets and this can result in fog. When the water evaporates it goes up into the atmosphere as a gas then it goes into the step of condensation.
CONDENSATION/ PRECIPITATION
Condensation is when the vapor in the atmosphere turns into clouds, Precipitation is when it rains one of the states of water. Condensation happens when the water vapor in the atmosphere collides with dust and then small clouds are created then the clouds join together to make big clouds. The clouds keeps on rising and the clouds get colder and colder until the water vapor in the cloud gets too cold and then it starts to rain. When precipitation starts it rains water, hail, snow and sleet. When it starts raining water falls all over the Earth into rivers, lakes, oceans and dirt so what comes after they are called runoff and infiltration.
RUNOFF/ INFILTRATION
Runoff and infiltration are the steps after precipitation, runoff is water moving once the water has fallen from the cloud and while all that happens a large amount of the water is going underground. There is a large amount of water under our feet this is called groundwater and this is we comes out of the taps in New Zealand and all this is thanks to infiltration. All the plants in the world drink ground water, trees though they let of some water vapor that helps other vapor to come so they can make clouds if this didn't happen there would be less rain. If you dig down you will eventually find water but the deeper you go the hotter it gets then if the water goes to deep it would  burn and evaporate.

All of these steps happen everyday thanks the sun and gravity. There is a lot more information to do with the water cycle, just think what if we didn't have the sun none of this would of happened.

I can recognise and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns

In this unit I have been learning about:
The parts of speech.
The types of nouns.
The types of sentences.

In this unit, I found challenging defining parts of speech because I wasn't always know what one the word went to.

Something new I learnt was " That band is awesome!" is a Command.

adverbial clauses

I can apply my knowledge of adverbial clauses and connectives to see how ideas are linked in texts.
For reading I have been learning about adverbial clauses. I have found this learning fun because it was an easy task to complete.
In this activity link , I had to highlight the part of the sentence that we think is the adverbial clause.

Using a range of multiplicative strategies.

In Maths we have been learning to use a range of multiplicative strategies when operating with whole numbers.

The strategies we have been learning are:

- Estimate the reasonableness of large problems like 1 788 – 891. Could 497 be right?
- Use multiplication to solve addition and subtraction problems eg.
  64 – 48 = as (8 x 8) – (6 x 8) = 2 x 8= 16
- Use doubling / halving, trebling/ thirding and adjusting to solve multiplication problems,
 eg.  12 x 50 solved as 4 x 150= 600
- Use an algorithm to solve multiplication problems.
- Solve problems using simple cube numbers .
- Use an algorithm to solve division problems.

Here is a link to my Multiplicative Strategies Assessment which shows that I know why and how I use particular strategies. This doc also has screenshots to show which IXL activities I have completed as part of my learning.

My next step in my Maths Learning is Solve problems using simple cube numbers

Term 2 Te Reo Reflection

Unistructural

Multistructural

Relational

Extended Abstract
I can say 1-5 words about celebrations in te Reo Maori.
With help, I can ask and answer several questions about celebrations, using te Reo Maori.
I can ask and answer several questions about celebrations, using Te Reo Maori.
I can ask and answer a range of questions about celebrations, using Te Reo Maori. I can teach others these questions and answers.

In Te Reo this term I have been learning about using vocabulary around food (Kai) and celebrations (Ngā hākari)

Here are some sentences, with english translation in brackets, that I can say confidently

  1. He pai ki a koe ngā / te aporo?- Do you like apples?
  2. He aha te mea pai, ki a koe kei to pāti?  (What do you like about your party?)
  3.  Ae!.......kā pai tō koutou mahi. ( good job you lot )

I can describe the structure of a Short Story

Something I have learned about the structure of short stories is: everything happens more quickly.

After reading some short stories two things I will remember when I write my own short story are I have to make my story happen more quickly and use shorter words meaning longer words.

My Argument

For writing we have been learning to write an argument using the writing process. The topic was “Are Devices Taking Over Our Lives”.

Something I did really well in my writing was my ideas in my writing

Here is a section of my writing that shows this.

People can now get information quickly

I can read and interpret a range of graphs

For maths I have been learning to read and interpret a range of graphs. This relates to the National
  • I can compare distributions visually (Year ⅞ Standard)

Here is link to my Statistical Literacy spreadsheet  which shows all of the graphs and tables I can read and interpret.

I have also compared and contrasted some of the graphs. Below are the links to them

My next step is to use these in my leadership investigation next term.

Exposition

Taylor Swift has a greater influence on the younger generation while Sir Edmund Hillary has an influence he appeals to both young and old. Another reason is, sir Edmund Hillary inspires me more because of his bravery in RNZAF, leadership, honour and determination.

Striking and Frielding

WALT: Apply Striking and Fielding activities in a range of sports and activities.

My Strengths

The striking strategies I was able to effectively demonstrate during the games we played were…….

The throwing and catching strategies I was able to effectively demonstrate during the games we played were…….

My Next Steps

To improve my striking of a ball I need to I need to plan where the ball is going to go. because I don't normally plan where the ball is going to go.

To Improve my catching and fielding I need to I need to have my eye on the ball because I am normally have my eyes wandering around.

The game that I enjoyed the most was batting because I like hitting the ball and almost got a home run.

Reading I can identify the way that writers use language and ideas to suit their purpose.

Name: isaac Date:14/03/16

L4 Author’s Purpose follow up
I can  describe how to identify author's purpose.
I can describe the language used by authors to achieve their purpose.
I can compare and contrast language and ideas between texts with similar author’s purpose.
Text:
Six days a week

The author’s purpose is… To inform

I know this because…. because this girl was telling us about what she did

Language used to support purpose.
Informal text eg pretty sure
Ideas used to support purpose
Longer sentences with lots of dialogue
Text:
independence games

The author’s purpose is… To inform

I know this because….. Because they were telling us about the independence games

Language used to support purpose.
Formal text eg similar abilities

Ideas used to support purpose.
Shorter sentences with lots of info
My Evaluation
After reading both texts and comparing and contrasting language and ideas used to support authors purpose)

The text which I think most achieved its purpose was……… the independence games

My reasons for this evaluation are…….. (list at least 3)
  • Because of the shorter sentences it is easy to read
  • the text has all of the info about the independence games
  • it had some interesting words
